As part of our ongoing commitment to protecting and expanding the rights of limited English proficient (LEP) populations, SAAPRI was proud to participate in recent efforts to advance language justice across Cook County. On March 11th, 2025, Executive Director Shobhana Johri Verma joined key partners and advocates including the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago (AAJC-Chicago), and the Coalition for a Better Chinese American Community to offer testimony in support of an amendment to the Cook County Human Rights Ordinance, which now formally prohibits language discrimination.
