On January 20th, 2023, SAAPRI was honored to join partners and partner organizations in sharing the release of Change Insight‘s inaugural report at a press conference at the Union League Club of Chicago, sharing detailed data and insights on the well-being of our communities across Chicago as well as recommendations to act on the findings.
According to a recent PEW Research Center report, the Asian American population grew 81% between 2000 and 2019. As the 3rd largest metropolitan area, Chicagoland is home to the 5th largest Asian American population in the country with South Asian Americans from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and members of the South Asian diaspora being one of the fastest growing ethnic communities.
Asian Indians comprise the largest segment of the South Asian American community, followed by Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Nepali, Sri Lankans, and Bhutanese. So, for a community so diverse and large, to be able to take into account its growing needs and challenges, last year, we partnered with Change InSight, the first data platform documenting the needs of AAPI and NHPI communities.

Sarowitz, Theresa Mah, Hoan Huynh, Kevin Olickal, Abdelnasser Rashid, Nubia Willman, Nicole Lee and our partner organizations Chinese American Service League (CASL), AFIRE Chicago, Apna Ghar, Inc., Indo-American Center, and Hanul Family Alliance who collectively surveyed 2,200 AAPI community members in the Chicago area.
