21st Anniversary Fundraising Kickoff: South Asian History and Art

21st Anniversary Fundraising Kickoff: South Asian History and Art

On October 28th, 2022, SAAPRI celebrated 21 years of service to our community! We kicked off a fundraiser at Urban Convene Chicago with the goal of raising $20,000 to commemorate over two decades spent in service to our community. Event ticket included access to SAAPRI’s “Memories and Milestones” exhibit – a pictorial and narrative history of the South Asian immigrant experience in Illinois between 1945 and 1965.

As a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to serving South Asian Americans in Illinois, we have advocated for equitable and sustainable policy recommendations since 2001. Our community-based research and collaborations with partners have allowed us to respond to community issues and voice them to public officials. It is our outreach work that has led to data-driven solutions and cross-racial coalitions in our community.

We gathered to honor the work that we have accomplished together while also learning about the history of South Asian immigration to Illinois in the pre-civil rights era and exploring how South Asians were affected by issues of race, gender, and homeland politics.

Thank you to all those who attended our event! If you were not able to attend the event, you can access more photos of the event here
