On July 20th, 2022, SAAPRI partnered with other Chicagoan organizations including the Pilsen Neighbors Community Council to host a citizenship and immigration expo. The event focused on bringing together diverse community organizations across Chicago to address and bring awareness about similarities in our immigration issues as well as the dissimilarities that pull as apart in the fight of justice for a complete inclusive immigration reform.
SAAPRI’s Community Equity Research Council member Dhenu Maru was a part of a discussion regarding immigration law and the South Asian experience, among other related topics. Dhenu Maru is an experienced immigration attorney and founder at Swagat USA. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and Co-Chair of the Immigration and Nationality Law Committee.
