SAAPRI Discusses Voting Rights on UpFront with Rev. Jesse Jackson

Law student volunteer Aditi Singh represented SAAPRI in a discussion about voting rights on UpFront with Rev. Jesse Jackson, airing on March 8, 2014 on The Word Network. Rainbow PUSH Coalition, Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, and Common Cause Illinois also joined the conversation.

On the show, Aditi said, “In the South Asian American community, we are growing in number, and there are large numbers of citizens now who want to vote but who don’t have access to the polls. That’s where we draw from the power of working with communities who have been defending the right to vote for many years. Even if each voting problem doesn’t impact each community in each district, this work is about protecting the right to vote, a right that the Civil Rights movement fought very hard for…

For everybody,” added Rev. Jesse Jackson.
